Success Leaves Clues

Positive Start to the Fall Season
“Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you deal with it.”
Those that know me know I am a big quote person – I am a firm believer in the phrase, “Success Leaves Clues” and it seems to me that there is no better place to find some clues than to read and try to apply catchy phrases or mottos that successful people said or lived by. They are, in fact coming right out and telling us clues as to how to be more successful in our lives and are a great resource for our coaches in helping them teach our student-athletes the many positive life lessons and habits that being involved in athletics and other extra-curricular activities can teach.
The quote I chose to open my article of the month with is one that our coaches employ often. Since no athlete or team at any level is perfect, inevitably mistakes are going to happen during the course of any contest. Our coaches do a great job of teaching our athletes that the mistakes are the 10% and how they deal with them is the 90%. Staying positive and not hanging heads or quitting is crucial to the success of any team while still realizing that it is still important to correct mistakes and not make the same ones over and over.
Proof that our teams continue to improve is not hard to find as I summarize some of our successes so far this fall. We are off to a great start in our new league and believe that continued and even greater success is just around the corner. Please also note the important upcoming events in the month of October – the Car Party Fund Raiser on the 25th (only a few tickets left – buy now by calling 647-2983!) and the Hall of Fame Induction on the 4th (all tickets gone)…
- First ever football game in the new league (Mid-Michigan Conference) vs. Alma on Friday night was one of the most exciting games seen in our stadium in a long time as we won in double over-time 26-23 and our student body rushed the field in the excitement. Varsity football team is now 2-1 and 1-0 in the league. (JVs and frosh also have wins).
- Cross Country is also enjoying early success defeating last year’s old league champ Dewitt and also beating Charlotte, finished 4th in the first league jamboree.
- Soccer team is currently 5-2 and 2-1 vs. new league foes (no to mention beating class A school St. Johns this week) and is currently in the middle of a 3 game winning streak.
- Golf team, continued to be led by area renowned Quinn Hoffman picked up its first league win beating Alma this week.
- The Varsity Girls Basketball team is currently 2-0, 3-2. After a 1 point loss to Williamston the Lady Raiders have rattled off wins against conference rivals Perry and Chesaning as well as a win against Bath. Danielle Buche and Allison Badder have lead the team offensively averaging about 10 points per game each. (The young JV team comprised mostly of freshmen is tearing it up blowing out most opponents and posting a record so far, in the league).
- Our tennis team has taken home two trophies already this year as well.
